Visitors to Vangviang Organic Farm

There are many opportunities for visitors who wish to come to the farm. We are pleased to accomodate students of organic farming who wish to learn by doing while enjoying the quiet beauty of our mountains. And we are always happy to accept volunteers who come to help with our community projects. English teachers of all abilities are always needed. Volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with our local villagers, who represent 3 distinct cultural groups (Lao, Hmong, and Kmou). We have room for individuals and groups of up to 50 people. Contact us and we can arrange a visit to the farm that will surely be the highlight of your travels in SE asia.

We encourage other organic farmers and enthusiasts to visit us. We always have something interesting happening on the farm, such as sun-drying our organic fruits or transplanting pineapples. We are sure you will find something to learn from us, and we will learn from you as well.

Accomodation:

Although we do not operate a guest house as such, we do have inexpensive accomodations for the people who visit us. Our rooms range from a simple, small room or dormitory with shared bath, to a larger room with a private bath. We will do our best to find an appropriate place for you or your group to stay with us. And, if we do not have space available at the time of your visit, there are many guest houses in the tourist town of Vang Vieng, only 3 km away. Vang Vieng also has a public market, pharmacies, restaurants, and internet access.

Restaurant:

We operate an organic foods restaurant to feed our volunteers and the tourists who stop by for lunch or dinner. All of our meals are made with organic produce, much of it grown right here on the farm. While you are here, you should try our mulberry tea, mulberry wine, and mulberry shakes. They are all delicious. Be sure to order your meal early, and be patient, as we prepare each dish to order and that can take a while. We think the results are worth the wait. So do our many happy volunteers.

Travel:

Getting to the farm from Vientiane is easy. Northbound buses leave from the Talat Sao bus terminal several times each day, mostly early in the morning or just after lunch. (Check the current schedules at your hotel or guest house.) It takes 3-4 hours for the trip to Vang Vieng. It is also possible to charter a car, van, or song tao for the trip. Get off the bus in Vang Vieng and hire a song tao or tuk-tuk for the 3 km drive north to the Mulberry Farm. Watch for our sign on the right side of the road. We are at the end of a short graveled road west (left) of Highway 13 along the banks of the Nam Song river. You will know you have arrived when you see the rows of mulberry trees.

Packages:

Please Note : You do not need to organise a packaged stay to come and visit us! This is just a service we provide for your convenience.

Regardless of whether you plan to volunteer your time for one of our community projects, or just relax by the Nam Song river, we can arrange the details of your stay:

  • Accomodation
  • Meals prepared in our organic restaurant
  • Transport to and from either Vientiane or Luang Prabang - this includes pickup from the airport if required
  • Local activities such as trekking, rockclimbing, kayaking or floating down the Nam Song river on a tube
